The Most Rugged and Powerful Robot Mower on the Market
The days of standing behind a loud, smelly lawn mower in the hot sun each and every Saturday in the summer are almost completely behind us. Modern technology has finally found a solution for this most mundane chore: robot lawn mowers.
However, while this technology has been around for some time, these useful devices have not been without their limitations and problems. For example, robot lawn mowers have never been particularly great on slopes and more rugged terrain, making them a better fit for smaller, flatter lawns, much like those you would find in cities.
Fortunately, this is no longer a problem. Thanks to the Husqvarna 435X AWD robot lawn mower, even if you have a large, multi-level lawn, you no longer need to do this job yourself. Equipped with All Wheel Drive and a number of other features meant to improve its functionality, this is truly one of the best robot lawn mowers you can buy.

Features of the Husqvarna 435X AWD Review

The Husqvarna 435X AWD comes fully loaded with a number of different features you simply won’t find on other robot lawn mowers. Here are the ones that will have the most impact on your experience and that help set this mower apart from other models on the market:
-
.9-acre cutting area
Since robot lawn mowers run entirely on rechargeable batteries, they are inherently limited in how much area they can cut at one time. But with 100-minute battery life and 8” blade, the Husqvarna 435X AWD can cut up to .9 acres at a time, which is the largest cutting area of any robot lawn mower available today.
-
Ultrasilent motor
Another thing robot lawn mowers do well is that they are really quiet. No more waking up the neighbors at 8am when you go to cut the grass. But the Husqvarna 435X AWD takes it to another level. By using 2-step gearboxes, a technology unique to this model, the Husqvarna 435X AWD is virtually silent.
-
Rugged AWD and slope-specific technology
As the name suggests, the Husqvarna 435X AWD comes equipped with All Wheel Drive technology, a feature that is entirely unique in the world of robot lawn mowers. This allows it to run through pretty much any terrain. Add in its thick tread tires, pivoting rear tire design, and tilt sensor, and you’ve got a robot lawn mower that can handle pretty much any terrain.
-
Razor sharp disc blades
The Husqvarna 435X AWD goes beyond what other mowers offer by using two razor sharp rotating blades. This helps reduce energy consumption, provides more cutting options and heights, and also helps keep the mower as quiet as possible.
-
Remote starting from five locations
If you’ve got a lawn that is larger than .9 acres or if certain areas of your yard grow faster than others, you can set up the Husqvarna 435X AWD to start in up to five different locations. This allows it to cover more ground over the course of a few days and also ensures that you keep your grass at an even level.
-
Over-the-air-updates
Robot lawn mowers run on software, which needs to be updated frequently. Unlike other models on the market, which require you to connect to a computer using a USB cord, the Husqvarna 435X AWD is entirely wireless. It will connect to the internet via WiFi and then download any software or firmware updates entirely on its own, meaning you don’t have to do a thing.
-
Smarthome integration
If you want to take the Husqvarna 435X AWD’s automated features even further, it is designed to integrate fully with Amazon Alexa and Google Home, allowing you to quickly and easily check the mower’s progress and also give it commands when needed. It also comes with its own app where you can keep an eye out for software updates and also program your mowing schedule, among many other things.
-
Weather forecaster and timer
Given how rugged it is, the Husqvarna 435X AWD can cut your grass in any condition. But if it cuts in the rain, it’s not going to do as good of a job, mainly because wet grass is harder to cut, which will cause the battery to drain more quickly. To prevent any issues from arising, the Husqvarna 435X AWD uses WiFi to check the weather and will adjust your mowing schedule accordingly. For example, if you’ve programmed it to run on Wednesday and rain is forecasted, it will delay until Thursday after the storm has passed.
-
GPS navigation
The Husqvarna 435X AWD, like its baby cousin, the Husqvarna 315x (same model without AWD that’s also a bit cheaper) uses a guide wire to map it’s route. But to handle tighter spaces and also help itself learn to become more efficient, it also comes equipped with GPS technology, which allows it to correct mistakes and find itself on your property if it ever gets off its route. This feature also allows you to more accurately track where the mower is in your yard while it’s running.
Pros and Cons of the Husqvarna 435X AWD
As you can see, the Husqvarna 435X AWD is loaded with all sorts of features, many of which you won’t find in other robot lawn mowers. Some of these are great, whereas others leave a little to be desired.
To help you determine if this is the right robot lawn mower for you, here are the main pros and cons of the Husqvarna 435X AWD.
Pros
The things we like most about the Husqvarna 435X AWD include:
-
Fantastic in Rugged Terrain and Steep Slopes
When it comes to handling anything other than a flat lawn, the Husqvarna 435X AWD simply cannot be matched. The AWD technology, thick tread tires, and tilt and lift sensors make this thing a true beast.
To give you an idea, the Husqvarna 435X AWD can handle slopes of 70 percent, which is equal to 35 degrees. No other model on the market can do anything above 20 or 25 degrees. So, if you have a lawn with hills and other steep features, the Husqvarna 435X AWD is the only robot lawn mower that will actually be able to cut your grass.
Plus, the razor sharp blades are great at cutting through thick or even moist grass. Yes, this will take a little more battery, but sometimes it's unavoidable. And when the conditions aren’t cooperating, you want something that can actually do the job.
-
Quietest Mower on the Market
Another huge benefit of this mower is that it is quiet. Super quiet. So much so that you won’t even know that it’s running while it’s cutting your grass.
This is actually something Husqvarna does well with all its mowers. Both the Husqvarna 115H and the Husqvarna 315X are super, super quiet.
All robot lawn mowers are quiet, thanks to the fact that they use electric motors. But the Husqvarna 435X AWD goes beyond this by using two-step gearboxes. Without getting too much into technicalities, all this means is that there is less friction between the moving parts inside the motor, which translates to quieter performance.
-
Large Cutting Area
Another thing that is really great about the Husqvarna 435X AWD is how much area it can cover on a single charge. With a battery life of 100 minutes and a large 8-inch blade, it covers more area in less time than any other mower on the market.
The vast majority of robot lawn mowers available today can only cover .25-.5-acres on a single charge, making them impractical for anything but the smallest lawns.
What’s more is that the Husqvarna 435X AWD charges back to full in just 30 minutes. So, if it starts to run out of battery before it’s finished cutting your yard, it will return itself to the charging station, recharge, and head back out to finish the job. This will repeat, automatically, until your lawn is fully cut, allowing you to use this mower on pretty much any size lawn.
-
Superb Navigation
The Husqvarna 435X AWD also has some of the best navigation capabilities of all the robot lawn mowers available today. It does this by combining a number of features. Like all robot lawn mowers, it uses a guide wire that is installed around your property to determine the limits of its cutting area and also map its route.
But the Husqvarna 435X AWD is also a GPS lawn mower, it uses automated passage handling (a special technology that allows it to see and move through narrow spaces), and it has remote object detection, all of which helps the mower see obstacles in the distance to avoid collisions and plan a better route.
All of this means there is less of a chance of your mower getting stuck somewhere, and also that it will find a more efficient route that will allow it to cut more area on a single charge.
You won’t find this combination of features anywhere else.
Cons

Although there are a lot of things to love about the Husqvarna 435X AWD, no product is perfect. To make sure you’re fully aware of what you’re getting into, here are some of the shortcomings of this robot lawn mower:
-
Price
While the Husqvarna 435X AWD is loaded with features and does things other lawn mowers can’t, all this extra functionality comes with a price tag. In this case, it’s kind of a steep one. At the moment, it retails for $3,999.
While this might seem a little shocking, when put into context it makes a little more sense. Most robot lawn mowers go for around $1,000, but they usually cut less than .5 acres at a time and don’t have the all-terrain capabilities of the Husqvarna 435X AWD.
Also, given that this mower is built to last and energy efficient, it’s likely to be the last lawn mower you ever buy. So, if you can handle this initial cost, it’s going to be worth it. But by including so many features in this model, Husqvarna has priced quite a few people out of its market.
If you’re looking for a slightly less expensive model but still want some of the great features Husqvarna has to offer, consider the Husqvarna 115H or the Husqvarna 315X.
The 115H is a fairly straightforward model. It cuts about a half an acre at a time, but costs only $1,300. Here is our full review of the Husqvarna 115H.
On the other hand, The 315X has GPS and 4G connectivity, though it doesn’t have AWD. It usually runs around $1,700 and is well worth it for those who don’t need the ruggedness of the 435X.
Other more cost-effective options include the WORX Landroid WR140 or the Robomow RS612.

Difficult Installations
Another thing to keep in mind is that installing the Husqvarna 435X AWD in your lawn requires a professional. Fortunately, when you buy this top-of-the-line model, Husqvarna will send someone out at no additional cost to you. This will delay when you can start using the mower, and it also means you will need to call someone to come out if there is ever an issue.
It is possible to have the installation kit sent to you so that you can do it yourself, but this is not recommended. It’s quite a job, and if you don’t do it right, then your mower isn’t going to work all that well. Learn more about how robot lawn mowers work.
In the end, this is a minor inconvenience, and something you can expect with pretty much any robot lawn mower. But given the complexity of the Husqvarna 435X AWD, things go a little further and can be frustrating for some.
-
Sometimes Buggy
One last issue we discovered with the Husqvarna 435X AWD is that sometimes the software can be a bit buggy.
For example, the weather forecast feature, which is supposed to check the weather and adjust the mowing schedule accordingly, doesn’t take into account current weather conditions. So, if it changed the schedule because it was supposed to rain but then doesn’t rain, the mowing will still be delayed.
Also, it can sometimes have difficulty coordinating multiple zones, which can mess up the route and make the mower a little less efficient. Ideally, these bugs will get resolved with upcoming software updates, and they’re ultimately not significant enough to outweigh its other benefits, but it is a pain point for some that should be considered.
The Husqvarna 435X AWD: A Fully-Equipped Robot Lawn Mower
If you have a bigger lawn with multiple levels and inclines and want to stop wasting your Saturday’s cutting the grass, then the Husqvarna 435X AWD is going to be the best choice for you. People with smaller lawns can probably get away with a lesser model, but the features and functionality of this one are hard to beat.
The price tag is a bit steep, but considering what this machine can do, it’s going to be worth it for most people. Check out the latest price on Amazon and get ready to transform your lawn mowing experience.
