We are quickly approaching a world in which robots can do most of our daily tasks. Digital assistants such as Google Home and Amazon Alexa can automate a lot of tasks, and soon cars will be driving themselves.

Perhaps one of the more useful developments in the world of robots, at least when it comes to saving us time and money, is the robot lawnmower.

Capable of cutting the grass without any human intervention, these devices are super useful and allow you to stop wasting your precious weekends on lawn care.

Sounds pretty good, no? Now, which robot lawn mower to buy? That’s a much more difficult question to answer, as there are a number of different options on the market. It can be hard to know which one is right for you.

If you’re unsure, one model you should consider is the The Husqvarna Automower 115h

Made by one of the leaders in home lawn care equipment, it’s durable, smart, quiet, and powerful, making it one of the top choices for most lawns. And it’s perfect for those with medium- to small-sized lawns.

But don’t just take our word for it. Check out our full review to see why this mower could be the right one for you.

Features of the Husqvarna Automower 115h Robotic Lawn Mower

All robot lawn mowers fulfill the same core function: they cut your lawn for you. But each model does something a little different that helps make it unique.

Here are some of the features of the Husqvarna Automower 115h that help make it unique:

  • 17,000 square foot cutting area

One of the biggest things to consider with a robot lawn mower is the size of its cutting area, i.e. how much grass it can cut at one time. For the Automower 115h, it can cut up to 700 square feet at a time, which is the equivalent of 0.4 acres. This makes it a good choice for most city lawns and medium-sized suburban lawns.

  • Razor sharp blades and brushless motor

Part of what makes the Husqvarna Automower 115h so effective is its powerful brushless motor, the most efficient type of electric motor. In addition, this mower is equipped with razor-sharp blades mounted on a disc, which ensures smooth, effective cutting every time.

  • Smart capability

The Husqvarna Automower 115h is a fully-automatic robotic lawn mower, which means it requires little to no human intervention. THis is made possible by the Automower Connect@Home app. Using your smartphone, you can do everything from set the mower’s schedule, check its settings, and learn about maintenance. On this model, you connect to your mower via Bluetooth, which means you need to be within 30 feet or so to be able to control it.

  • Automatic charging

The mower’s cutting area is determined mostly by how long the battery lasts. On the Husqvarna Automower 115h, that’s usually about an hour. But when the battery is running low, you don’t need to do anything. It will automatically find the charger and return to it. If it hasn’t finished mowing the lawn, it will head back out when it’s charged to finish what it started.

  • DIY Installation

Most robot lawn mowers require professional installation. But you can set up the Husqvarna Automower 115h yourself, which saves you a bunch of money and lets you start using your mower sooner.

  • Optimal route mapping

The Automower 115h uses artificial intelligence to figure out how to best mow your lawn. Using the boundary and guide wire, it will figure out the best route to ensure it cuts as much grass as possible in as little time as possible. This means it might take a bit of an irregular path around your lawn. But don’t worry. It knows what it’s doing.

  • Motion sensing

Since you don’t have to mow your lawn yourself, you can be out in the yard while the grass is being cut. But if you have kids, or just aren’t paying that much attention, you don’t want to run into the mower. Luckily, the Automower comes equipped with a motion sensor so it can detect when someone is near and either reroute or stop so that there can’t be any collisions.

  • Weather and theft proof

The Husqvarna Automower 115h has been built to spend its life outdoors. It’s completely waterproof and built with quality materials to prevent any damage. But just because it can cut grass in the rain doesn’t mean it will. Wet grass is harder to cut, which will drain the battery. So, the mower will sense when it’s raining and delay its schedules accordingly. Also, you don’t need to worry about anyone walking off with your mower. You need to enter a PIN to take it off its charging port, and if it leaves its boundary area, you’ll get a notification to your phone.

Pros and Cons of the Husqvarna Automower 115h

Based on the features alone, there are a lot of reasons to like the Husqvarna Automower 115h. But beyond these basic qualities, there are a number of other things that stand out about this model and make it one of the better options for those with medium-sized lawns.

Pros

  • No Track Marks

A truly professional lawn mower will leave your lawn looking manicured. There’s nothing worse than seeing a bunch of marks from the mower itself. The Husqvarna Automower 115h is the first robotic lawn mower designed to prevent this from happening.

When it maps out how to cut your grass, it will plan a route that will allow it to cover your entire lawn and return to the charging station without having to track back over areas it already cut. This leaves your grass looking like a carpet every time.

Of course, to do this, the mower will have to move around in rather irregular patterns. But don’t be alarmed. That’s what it’s supposed to do and will ultimately leave your lawn looking better.

  • Patented Guide Wire

Part of the reason the Automower 115h can do “trackless” mowing is because of its patented guide wire. Most robot lawn mowers rely on a boundary wire to help the mower learn about it’s area and choose its path. But Husqvarna went a step further and included another guide wire, which usually runs through the middle of your lawn.

This helps the mower better understand where it is and make a better route.

More importantly, though, the guide wire helps the mower navigate tight and narrow spaces. Because it has more information at its disposal, the Automower 115h can make a more accurate map and squeeze through areas other mowers simply cannot.

  • Capable on Slopes

Another thing to really like about the Husqvarna Automower 115h is its ability on slopers. It can handle grades of up to 30 percent, which is equal to about 20 degrees. Most robot lawn mowers can’t do more than 20 percent, especially at this price point.

  • Fast Charging

On a full battery, the Husqvarna Automower 115h can run for about an hour, assuming the grass is dry and it isn’t having to fight a lot of hills. This is fairly standard. But what’s nice about this model is that it will charge back up to full in about an hour.

This means that if the mower can’t finish the job on one charge, it will return to its dock, get more juice, and head back out, making sure your lawn is always in tip-top shape.

  • Durable

Robot lawn mowers are a bit more expensive than traditional lawn mowers, at least up front. But in addition to the time savings they provide, they will also save you money on maintenance.

Traditional lawn mowers need oil changes, new spark plugs, fuel, and more to stay running over time. Robot lawn mowers need much less, and therefore last a lot longer, which helps offset the upfront costs.

The Husqvarna Automower 115h goes a step further by including truly top-grade materials. First, the blades are made from carbon steel, which wears down much more slowly than other materials, which means sharper cuts and fewer replacements.

You will also notice with this machine that it’s built somewhat like a tank. Still only 20 pounds, the core components of this mower are well-made, something we would expect from a premium brand such as Husqvarna.

Of course, how you treat it will matter, but if you buy this mower, expect to have it for pretty much the rest of your life.

  • Quiet

Lastly, one of the best things about the Automower 115h is that it’s so quiet. Even at full power, it gives off fewer than 70 dB of sound, which is barely louder than someone talking. So, whether you’re sleeping, out in the yard, entertaining, or not home, the mower can run and won’t really bother anyone at all. Can you say that about your regular mower?

Cons

Although there are a lot of things to like about the Husqvarna Automower 115h, no product is perfect.

Here are a few things we don’t love about this machine that you should keep in mind before making a purchase:

  • Slightly More Complex Installation

The patented guide wire helps make the Husqvarna Automower 115h more effective and efficient. But it also adds to the installation process.

Most mowers use just a boundary wire, which goes around the edge of your property. But installing this guide wire correctly requires a bit of know-how. Husqvarna claims you can do it yourself, and you can, but it will just be a bit more involved than with other mowers.

If you decide to have a professional do it, this installation can run you anywhere from $500 to $700, and since the Husqvarna one is more involved, it’s likely to be on the higher end.

Again, even with these upfront costs, the mower pays for itself over time. But expect to pay this extra fee at the beginning if you want to take full advantage of the Automower’s features.

  • Bluetooth-Only Model Limits Communication

The base model, the Automower 115h, uses Bluetooth to connect to your smartphone or tablet. This is speedy and effective, but it is also limiting. You need to be within 30 feet of the mower to be able to control it.

A lot of the other models on the market use WiFi or wireless technology to connect, which means you can control the mower even if you’re not home.

This isn’t a huge problem, especially since increased connectivity comes at a higher cost. But you should keep this in mind if you’re considering the Automower. More expensive models of this mower do have WiFi and 4G connectivity, so if this is important, you may want to consider them instead.

  • No GPS

The Husqvarna Automower 115 also doesn’t come with GPS.

At this point in time, GPS is really only useful on a lawn mower if it wanders off the property or if you want to locate it. Currently, the technology needed to use GPS to map the route of the mower does not exist.

Nevertheless, some people want this feature on their mower. But having it will significantly drive up the cost.

  • Cost

Speaking of cost, the Husqvarna Automower 115h does come in as a little expensive compared to similar models. Check the latest price, but the standard model is usually around $1,175, with the 4G model costing a bit more, usually around $1,400.

There are other models out there that will cut a similar area for less money, but these tend to be better for smaller lawns. They have smaller batteries and therefore can’t usually cut more than ¼ acre. And the build quality of the Automower helps make it worth the extra cost.

Again, these mowers pay for themselves. But you can also opt for a payment plan that will help defray some of the upfront costs and let you take advantage of the benefits of a robot lawn mower sooner.

The Perfect Mower for Medium-Sized Lawns

If you have a medium-sized lawn, one that’s more than .25 acres, the Husqvarna Automower 15h is an ideal choice for you.

Despite some of its shortcomings when it comes to connectivity, it’s a durable, smart, and efficient machine that will leave your grass looking perfect every time.

Check out the latest price and get ready to say goodbye to ever having to mow the lawn again.
